Square-wave Rife frequency device

Rife frequencies, made simple to use at home.

Qrife brings Dr Royal Rife's idea of resonance into a small, easy device. Hold the rods or relax on the PEMF coil pad, scroll to a program by name, press play.

How it works

It starts with a tuning fork.

Everything vibrates. Every object and every living thing, down to the smallest cell, has its own natural frequency, the rate it most "wants" to vibrate at. That simple idea sits at the heart of Rife's work.

A struck tuning fork sends out sound waves. A second fork with the same note starts to vibrate. A third fork with a different note stays still.
1. Strike a fork and it sends out sound waves at its note. 2. A matching fork nearby picks up the note and starts to hum on its own. 3. A different fork stays silent. The note doesn't match it.

Sympathetic resonance

Physicists call this sympathetic resonance. Energy passes from one vibrating object to another most strongly when their frequencies match. It's why a singer can shatter a wine glass with one exact note while every other glass on the table stays whole.

Dr Rife believed living organisms work the same way. In his view, every microorganism, such as a bacterium, has its own frequency signature, much like a fingerprint. He believed that delivering that exact frequency would make the organism vibrate, the way the matching tuning fork does, while everything around it was left alone.

The water balloon picture

Rife practitioners often explain his idea with a water balloon. Under a microscope many tiny organisms look like little balloons filled with water. Shake a water balloon twice a second and you're shaking it at 2 Hz. Rife believed that every tiny organism had a rhythm like this that it couldn't withstand.

He called that frequency its Mortal Oscillatory Rate, or M.O.R., and spent years recording the frequencies he believed matched different organisms.

Why square waves

One square wave carries a whole ladder of frequencies.

Most sounds and signals are smooth curves called sine waves, and a sine wave holds just one frequency. Qrife uses square waves instead, the wave shape Rife practitioners have long preferred.

1 frequencyA plain sine wave

Many frequenciesA square wave

Adding more and more frequencies together turns a smooth sine wave into a square wave.

A square wave switches sharply between on and off. It looks simple, but mathematically it's made of a base frequency plus a stack of higher ones called harmonics: three times the base, five times, seven times and so on, each weaker than the last (the third is a third as strong as the base, the fifth a fifth as strong).

So when Qrife plays one frequency as a square wave, it also carries those higher harmonics with it.

  • More frequencies at once. Each program step reaches the base frequency and its harmonics together.
  • Crisp, clean edges. The sharp switch from off to on is the "pulse" people feel through the rods.
  • True to the tradition. Square waves are the wave shape used by contact Rife devices for decades, and by Dr Hulda Clark.

Two ways to use it

Hold the rods, or relax on the coil.

Qrife sends its frequencies to you in one of two ways. Use whichever suits you and the program you're running.

The rods

Direct contact through your hands

Two stainless steel rods plug into Qrife on standard leads. Hold one in each hand and the frequency flows gently from one hand to the other. Your hands are rich in nerve endings, which makes them an easy, natural way in.

  • Turn the intensity up with + until you comfortably feel a light tingle in both wrists, and no further.
  • You'll notice the tingle most on the lower frequencies, below about 880 Hz.
  • Prefer your feet? Rest them on the rods over a damp cloth with a pinch of salt for better contact.
  • Keep the two rods apart so they don't touch.

The PEMF coil pad

Hands-free, nothing to hold

The coil pad contains a coil of wire. When Qrife sends a frequency through it, the coil turns that signal into a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) that reaches about 90 cm around the pad. The field carries the same frequencies as the rods, without any contact.

  • You won't feel a thing, so you can read, rest or sleep.
  • Ideal for long, overnight program sets of six hours or more.
  • Handy for anyone who finds the rods awkward to hold.
  • Waterproof vinyl on one side and durable fabric on the other.

A little more about PEMF

Qrife switches the current through the pad's coil on and off at the program's frequency, so the magnetic field pulses at that same rate. Because Qrife uses square waves, each switch is sharp, so the field pulses in clear, distinct beats.

Pulsed electromagnetic fields have been explored for decades, and PEMF mats are now a familiar part of many wellness routines. Most people use the pad to rest and unwind. Pairing it with Rife frequencies means you can run programs for hours at a time, even while you sleep.

Two kinds of frequencies

Rife frequencies and bio-frequencies.

Qrife is more than a "Rife machine". Its programs draw on two families of frequencies that work hand in hand.

Rife frequencies

These programs use frequencies drawn from Dr Rife's research and the Rife practitioner tradition that grew from it.

Many programs also include a built-in dwell (sometimes called "wobble"), which moves slightly above and below each set frequency, the way many Rife practitioners like to work. It's all set for you.

Bio-frequencies

Bio-frequencies are frequencies linked with the body itself. In the 1950s German doctor Reinhold Voll measured the skin's electrical response at acupuncture points, which he linked to the body's organs, and his work shaped how practitioners think about frequencies for the body as a whole.

These programs are about balance and wellbeing, and most people make them a regular part of their routine.

Bio-frequency programs you'll find on Qrife

7.83 Hz

The Earth's own rhythm

In 1952 German physicist Winfried Otto Schumann predicted that the space between the Earth's surface and the upper atmosphere would resonate at very low frequencies. Measurements from 1960 showed the main one sits at around 7.83 Hz, now called the Schumann resonance. Qrife's Neuro program includes it.

Brain wave sweeps

Clarity, Relaxation, Sleep

Three sweeps glide through the frequency ranges named after brain wave states: beta, linked with alert focus; alpha, linked with calm, relaxed awareness; and theta, linked with drowsiness and the edge of sleep.

1 to 50 Hz

The cat's purr

A cat's purr sits in the low frequencies, and people have long found it soothing. The Cats Purr sweep moves from 1 to 50 Hz, taking in the Schumann resonance along the way.

Everyday

Health Maintenance

A gentle, general set made for regular use as part of your routine.

The screen

Scroll, tap, play. That's it.

If you can use a phone, you can use Qrife. Every program has a plain, friendly name, so you're never looking up lists of frequency numbers.

  • Just scroll through the list and press play.
  • Friendly names, such as "Health Maintenance" or "Brain Waves Relaxation", instead of number codes.
  • Favourites rise to the top. Programs you use move up the list so they're always close at hand.
  • Repeat any program up to nine times, or pause and pick up where you left off.
  • Set the intensity with simple + and − buttons.
  • Quick sweeps, long sets. Sweeps spend about a minute per frequency for a short session. Sets run related programs back to back for six hours or more, perfect overnight with the coil pad.

A curated library

A curated list, nothing doubled up.

Some frequency devices come loaded with thousands of programs, with the same thing listed over and over under different numbers. You're left to guess which one to use.

Qrife takes the opposite approach. Its maker has been in the Rife business since 1999 and has built its program list with input from experienced Rife practitioners around the world, keeping it focused and leaving out the guesswork. You get a curated list of programs, each with a clear name, so you always know what you're choosing.

Want to add something of your own? You can create programs directly on Qrife, or use the free Windows software to build programs and sets on your computer and send them to the device.

The history

From Dr Rife's laboratory to your living room.

Qrife stands on nearly a century of work by curious, determined people who believed frequency could support the body.

  1. 1920s to 1930s

Dr Royal Rife and the Universal Microscope

Royal Raymond Rife (1888 to 1971) was an American inventor with a gift for optics and electronics. With backing from wealthy supporters he built some of the most advanced microscopes of his time, including the Universal Microscope, said to contain more than 5,000 parts. He reported watching living microorganisms and seeing them stop when exposed to particular frequencies, which led to his idea of the Mortal Oscillatory Rate and to his own frequency instrument.

  2. 1950s

Dr Reinhold Voll and the body's own frequencies

In Germany, Dr Voll measured how acupuncture points respond electrically and linked them to the body's organs. His work underpins today's idea of bio-frequencies.

  3. 1952

    The Schumann resonance

Physicist Winfried Otto Schumann predicts that the Earth and its upper atmosphere have a natural resonance. Later measurements put it at around 7.83 Hz.

  4. Late 1950s

    Rife frequencies through the hands

In his later years Rife worked with his business partner John Crane on a new generation of frequency instruments that delivered frequencies through hand-held electrodes, the same contact approach Qrife's rods use today.

  5. 1987

    Rife's story is rediscovered

Author Barry Lynes publishes a book on Rife's life and research, bringing his work to a whole new generation of readers.

  6. 1990s

Dr Hulda Clark brings frequencies home

Dr Hulda Clark's best-selling books introduced thousands of people to frequency devices they could use themselves, and renewed interest in Rife-style resonators around the world.

  7. 1999 to today

    The Qrife resonators

Low-cost modern electronics make it practical to build accurate, affordable resonators to Rife's guidelines. Qrife's maker starts in 1999 and keeps refining the device and its program list, guided by experienced Rife practitioners worldwide.

Dr Rife and Dr Clark

Two pioneers, one shared idea.

Dr Royal Rife and Dr Hulda Clark worked decades apart, and in different ways, yet they arrived at the same belief: every living organism has its own frequency, and the right frequency can reach it.

How Dr Rife's approach, Dr Clark's approach and Qrife compare
Feature Dr Royal Rife Dr Hulda Clark Qrife
Core idea Each microorganism has its own frequency, its Mortal Oscillatory Rate Each organism has its own band of frequencies Programs drawn from both traditions
Wave shape Later contact instruments used square waves Square waves, including her well-known "zapper" Square waves
How it reached you Hand-held electrodes on later instruments Hand-held metal electrodes Stainless steel rods or a PEMF coil pad
Approach One precise frequency at a time Fixed frequencies, plus a frequency generator for specific ones Precise frequencies, sweeps and long sets

The books that brought Rife back

For decades after the 1930s, Rife's work was largely forgotten. Two writers changed that. Barry Lynes told the story of Rife the man, including the businessmen, such as Henry Timken, who believed in him enough to fund his work, and how so much of it was later lost. Dr Hulda Clark took a hands-on approach. Her books showed readers how she used frequencies at home with simple square-wave devices, including the small battery-powered "zapper" she became known for.

Between them, these books are a big reason Rife resonators are being rediscovered today, and why so many people want a well-made device they can trust.

FAQs

Questions people ask.

What will I feel?

With the rods, a gentle tingle or pulse in your hands. Set the intensity so you comfortably feel it in both wrists and no further up your arms. If your muscles start to twitch, turn it down. With the coil pad you won't feel anything at all.

How long does a session take?

It depends on the program. Most programs spend about three minutes on each frequency, so a program might take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more. Sweeps are quicker, at about a minute per frequency. Sets run for six hours or more and are designed for overnight use with the coil pad.

Can I use it while I sleep?

Yes. Connect the coil pad, choose a set or press and hold play to repeat a program, and let it run while you sleep.

How do I get started gently?

We suggest starting slowly with one program a day, drinking plenty of water on session days, and building up as you get used to it.

Who should check with their doctor first?

Please talk to your doctor before using Qrife if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker, defibrillator or any other implanted electronic device, have a heart condition or heart rhythm problem, have epilepsy or a history of seizures, or have any health condition or take any medication you're unsure about. Don't use the rods on broken or irritated skin. Children should only use Qrife with an adult present, and after checking with their doctor. Keep following any treatment your doctor has given you.

Is Qrife a medical treatment?

No. Qrife is sold as a holistic wellness device and isn't included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. It isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, and it doesn't replace advice or care from your doctor. The history and ideas on this page are shared for interest and education.

Can you tell me which program to use for a health concern?

We can't give medical advice or suggest programs for a medical condition. We're happy to explain how the program list is laid out and how sweeps and sets work. For any health concern, please talk to your doctor.

How do I look after the battery?

Charge the battery for no more than 3 hours, don't leave it charging unattended, and only ever replace it with the same type of battery.

What if a lead or the charger gets lost or damaged?

Qrife uses standard parts on purpose. The leads are ordinary 4 mm banana-plug test leads, and any 5 V, 2 A USB charger will power it (please avoid phone "fast chargers"). You can pick up replacements from electronics shops almost anywhere in the world. Qrife even has a built-in tester to check your leads.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. On top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, the Qrife unit comes with a 1-year technical guarantee. That extra guarantee doesn't cover parts that wear with normal use (leads, rods, plugs, battery and charger), but those parts are still covered by the Australian Consumer Law. Please check everything works when it arrives and let us know straight away if anything isn't right, so we can sort it out quickly.
